The National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta State, has reached an exciting stage, with Team Lagos and Team Edo vying for the top spot on the medals table, while other states showcase their sporting prowess.

Team Lagos made an emphatic statement from the get go, clinching seven gold medals in swimming and registering impressive performances across several other sporting events.

One of the standout stars of the competition is 14-year-old gymnastics prodigy, Stephanie Ogechukwu Onusiriuka, who dazzled the crowd with her brilliance, winning three gold medals, one silver, and one team silver, while also being crowned the Best All-Round Gymnast in Nigeria at the Games.

Not to be outdone, Team Edo stamped their dominance in weightlifting, storming to six gold, one silver, and two bronze medals across the Women’s 44kg, 48kg, and Men’s 56kg categories. Their performance reaffirmed Edo’s status as one of the strongest contenders for the overall crown at this year’s edition.

In the men’s 56KG category, Team Akwa Ibom also made their mark, securing two golds and one bronze, while Team Niger showed remarkable determination with one gold and two silvers, solidifying their place among the frontrunners.

Elsewhere, Team Oyo and Team Delta battled hard to secure three silver and bronze medals respectively in the women’s 48kg category after Edo won the gold. In the women’s 44kg, Team FCT snatched all three silver medals, while Team Odun and Delta shared the bronze medals.

As of Monday, September 1, 2025, the medals table is shaping up into a thrilling contest:
