Arsenal In Pole Position To Sign Barca’s Torres

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could now reportedly be able to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona for €40 million (£34 million).

In May, talkSPORT reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Ferran Torres from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The report claimed that Aston Villa are also keen on bringing the former Manchester City forward to Villa Park.

TalkSPORT claimed that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is “a long-standing admirer” of the 23-year-old Spain international.

Mundo Deportivo are now reporting that Barcelona are willing to sell Torres for €40 million (£34 million) in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona have reportedly not been convinced by the youngster and do not think that he would succeed in head coach Xavi’s system, according to the report.

A transfer fee of £34 million for a 23-year-old Spain international forward is not really that high, especially when you consider that he played for Manchester City as well.

While Arsenal need a ‘proper’ number 9, perhaps Arteta could mould Torres into one and play him alongside Gabriel Jesus.

In 14 starts and 19 substitute appearances in La Liga for Barcelona this past season, Torres scored four goals and gave two assists in those matches.
