Akiotu Leads the Pack: Frontrunner to Head BON in Abuja

The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) is set to elect a new chairman, and all eyes are on Tony Anegbe Akiotu, who appears to be the frontrunner in the race.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is happening tomorrow April 8, at Hawthorn Suites, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, and it’s expected to be a big deal, with the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, in attendance.

Akiotu’s got a solid background in broadcasting, with nearly four decades of experience in the industry. He has worked as a journalist, served as Group Managing Director of Daar Communications Plc for 15 years, and is currently Chairman/CEO of M4STV Communications Ltd.

He’s also played key roles in the Nigerian Guild of Editors and within BON itself, where he’s spent over 10 years in the executive council.

Industry insiders say Akiotu’s the man for the job, citing his experience, leadership skills, and vision for the future of broadcasting in Nigeria.

His lone opponent, Raymond Dokpesi Jr., is facing an uphill battle, as Akiotu’s credentials and reputation seem to be carrying the day.

If elected, Akiotu’s priorities are expected to include capacity building for broadcast professionals and driving the transition to digital broadcasting nationwide. With his track record and industry support, it looks like he’s the favorite to win the top job.

The election marks the end of a two-year tenure by outgoing chairman, Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, and is seen as a chance for BON to continue its tradition of strong leadership and innovation in Nigerian broadcasting. With Akiotu at the helm, many believe the organization is in good hands.
