The Vice Chancellor of Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Professor Christopher Ogbogbo, has affirmed that the maiden 2025 Inter-Faculty Games, will not only promote student well-being but also play a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s sporting future.

Speaking at a press briefing held at the university’s campus, Prof Ogbogbo, who was represented by the institution’s Bursar, Captain H.Y. Aliyu, announced the launch of the games, slated to hold from Thursday, July 3 to Saturday, July 5, 2025. He described the initiative as a key component of ADUN’s holistic approach to education, which integrates academic excellence with physical development.

“This exciting initiative highlights the crucial role sports play in the overall development of our students,” the university helmsman said. “It fosters academic success, personal growth, and future readiness, while promoting a healthy lifestyle and strong university spirit.”

The games will feature participation from four faculties — Arts, Management and Social Sciences; Engineering, Technology and Maritime Studies; Law; and Sciences. Students will compete across nine events: Tennis, Table Tennis, Chess, Scrabble, Basketball, Archery, Volleyball, Football, and Track events (100m, 200m, 4×4 relay, and 1500m).

The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Chinedu Chiejine, represented by the Student Affairs Officer, Mr Isaac Amaga, described the games as a platform for showcasing student talent, encouraging collaboration, and strengthening school pride.

“The Inter-Faculty Games 2025 will be a memorable experience. It promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie among our students,” he said.

On his part, the Acting Sports Director, Mr Tervershimar Nder, gave insight into the tournament’s format. He disclosed that due to the number of participating faculties, most events will commence at the elimination or knockout stage, while Track and Archery events will begin at the final stages. He also noted that Archery, being a relatively new sport in Nigeria, holds promise as a future medal-winning event for the nation at international competitions.

Prof Ogbogbo added that ADUN is fully registered to observe this year’s Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competition in Jos, Plateau State. “This will expose our students to high-level competition and inspire them to reach greater sporting heights,” he said.

He further noted that the Inter-Faculty Games could serve as a springboard for talent discovery, particularly in niche sports like Archery, and contribute to building a stronger sporting ecosystem within and beyond the university.

As anticipation builds, students and staff alike are encouraged to come together to support the athletes and celebrate unity through sport.
