Babes of Abuja rolled back the years and made history on Day 6 of the 2024 Adover Handball Premier League, being staged in Lagos; as both sides scored over 40 goals, in a thriller that kept the spectators at the edge of their seats, for the entire duration of the game.
The two teams literally lit up the arena, and the women’s category on Monday, in an end-to-end affair, that also saw both sides score freely, in a game that produced a whopping 84 goals; with Imo Grasshoppers clinching a well-deserved 43-41 victory over an equally entertaining and deserving COAS Babes.
In other games decided in the women’s category, Seasider Babes of Lagos defeated Plateau Peacocks of Jos 28-25; while Rima Queens of Sokoto enjoyed a 36-21 victory over Bendel Dynamos of Benin.
NSCDC Defender Babes comfortably outscored Rivers Queens 33-26; while the defending champions, FRSC Safety Babes of Abuja trounced Delta Queens of Asaba 31-27, to remain unbeaten.
In the men’s category, TojeMarine of Lagos overcame a scare, mounted by a better organized Kano Pillars side, and eventually saw off the former two-time champions 27-26, to maintain their lead in the table; while NSCDC De Defenders of Abuja also had to dig deep to grind out a slim 26-25 victory over Corrections Boys of Abuja.
Elsewhere, Benue Buffaloes of Makurdi and promoted Sunshine Kings of Ondo played out a 23-23 draw; and the day’s show stopper saw Rima Strikers of Sokoto inflict a 28-26 defeat on the reigning champions, Niger United of Minna.
