The Acting Governor of Cross River, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for coming up with the Niger Delta Sports Festival to engage the youths and groom talents in the region.

The torch presentation, which moves from state to state, arrived calabar yesterday, the Cross River State capital in the company of enthusiastic sports lovers. The sports festival is a significant move to bring together all nine states of the region and also to develop talent in sports.
The festival, scheduled to hold from Tuesday April 1st, being the opening ceremony, will last till April 8 with teams from the various states competing in different games.

The Cross River State Representative in the board of the NDDC, Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke Ph.D expressed confidence in the capacity of the athletes to make the state proud. The Chairman of the Canaan Table Tennis Club, who has severally sponsored and nurtured teams to win medals and trophies in international sport competition, is ready to lead and support the Cross River State Team to yet another victory.

This important sporting event features 3,400 athletes, 560 coaches, and 418 officials, competing in 17 sports categories. Key venues for the festival include the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo Township Stadium, Nwaniba Marina, Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, Ultra Fit Sports Centre, West Itam Secondary School, and Cornelia Connelly College, Uyo.
