The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has won the first male and female National School Volleyball Championship that ended in Abuja on Friday 24 October 2025.
It was an all FCT’ female final in the women category as they claimed the first and second positions while the boys defeated Kaduna state in the final to clinch the gold and cart home the trophy.
Bayelsa state placed third in the female category.
The female fair play award went to Edo State while River State claimed male fair play award.
Divine Francis (12 years) in primary six from cross River State, Teipyang Elijah (Jss 2) and Adam Ibrahim, primary 6 received cash award for being the youngest players of the championship.
Over 250 pupils drawn from across over 17 schools, took part in the weeklong exercise held at the indoor sports hall, package ‘B’ of the MKO national stadium Abuja, from 20-25 October, 2025.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko was on hand to present prizes and trophies to winners alongside the President of the Nigeria School Sports Federation, Mrs Olabisi Joseph.
Dikko commended the school sports Federation for the wonderful initiative of adding volleyball to their numerous on going programmes.
He gave special kudos to the president of NSSF, Mrs Olabisi Joseph for her foresight and rejuvenating school sorts which is the way to go.
