With just seven days to go until the inaugural West African Para Games (Zones A & B) kick off in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed that preparations across all areas are fully on course.

The Games, scheduled for November 26 to December 4, 2025, will bring together para athletes from across West Africa, marking a major milestone for Nigeria as it strengthens its leadership in the development of para sports.

The Games reflect the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to position Nigeria as a preferred destination for international sporting events. This aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE), which continues to advance Nigeria’s sports sector through improved infrastructure, increased participation, and broader international engagement.

Preparations across key operational departments, such as accommodation, transportation, venue readiness, medical services, accreditation, media operations, security, volunteer mobilisation, and classification facilities, are reported to be in advanced stages.

According to LOC officials, the city is prepared to deliver an event that will not only showcase athletic excellence but also highlight Ogun State’s hospitality, culture, and organisational capacity.

President of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN), Sunday Odebode, commended the NSC for its commitment and coordination, praising the intensity and quality of ongoing preparations.

“These Games represent a new dawn for para sports in West Africa. The level of commitment shown by the NSC and the LOC gives us full confidence that Nigeria will set a benchmark for future editions. Our athletes are ready, the organisers are ready, and we look forward to a truly historic opening day,” Odebode said.

He further highlighted that the Games will deepen regional cooperation and expand competitive opportunities for para athletes across Africa.
