Dr Solomon Ogba, chairman of the APC National Assembly Electoral Panel for Bayelsa, met with journalists  to give an update on the House of Representatives primary election in the state. He described the exercise as peaceful and well-attended across the  constituencies.

Committee members said voting took place in Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma and other federal constituencies, with party agents, security personnel, and observers present.

They noted that the process followed the direct primary mode approved by the party for Bayelsa, allowing all registered members in each ward to participate.

Chairman of the committee, Dr Solomon Ogba, said reports from returning officers showed high turnout in most wards and no major disruptions. He pointed to the Sampou/Kalama Ward 6 result in Yenagoa/Kolokuma-Opokuma as an example, where 2,565 of 3,411 registered members voted to return Hon. Oforji Oboku as the party’s candidate.

Ogba attributed the smooth conduct to prior consultations with stakeholders and elders in the constituencies, which he said reduced friction on election day. He added that the committee would review reports from all wards before forwarding the final results to the APC national secretariat for ratification.

The briefing also addressed minor logistical delays in a few locations, which the committee said were resolved before voting ended. No petitions had been formally submitted as of the time of the press briefing.

The Bayelsa primaries are part of APC’s ongoing process ahead of the next round of House of Representatives elections. The committee said it remains committed to ensuring the process stays transparent and in line with party guidelines.
