NNL Match Day 11: How Ikya, Lobi Stars Chairman Nudged Team To Victory
FROM TERKURA AKAA SAKERA In Makurdi
Lobi Stars Football Club, FC of Makurdi, on Saturday beat visiting ABS of Ilorin 2 – 0, at a match held at the McCarthy stadium, following a bashing the team received from the Chairman of the club, Terver Ikya.
Ikya had earlier taken the players to the cleaners for losing 0 – 2, to FC Basira, during the NNL Match Day 10, that was held at the Lafia City stadium, a development that Ikya, said was unacceptable.
Immediately after the match, the club chairman, who was visibly not happy with the players, demanded more from them, insisting that the management of Lobi has done it’s best to ensure the team’s comfort and smooth operations.
Addressing the players, technical crew and staff when they resumed training before the match last weekend, Ikya, berated the team for the loss they suffered at the hands of FC Basira, which he observed was very disappointing.
Describing the Match Day 10, as a missed opportunity to turn the tables in their favour, the chairman stressed that the management was displeased with the result of the match.
Therefore, he resolved to tighten the operations of the club and demanded a shift in mentality, urging the team to be more ruthless, aggressive, and intentional in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League.
However, in a brief remark, the Head Coach of the team, John Onuh, who took responsibility for the loss, challenged the players to speak up on what must be done to turn the tide around.
Subsequently, the Team Captain Solomon Kwambe assured the management that the setback was a wake-up call and pledged renewed hunger and commitment, while another player, Monday Akile, expressed the belief that it was possible for the team to win the remaining four matches.
On his part, the Club Secretary Terzungwe Chugh reminded Lobi Stars players that promotion has always been the clear agenda, even as he charged them to redouble their efforts, stressing that the battle is for the strong.
Probably spurred by the rebuke from the chairman of the club, Lobi Stars, put up a near-superlative perform last weekend during it’s match against ABS of Ilorin, beating the visitors, 2 – 0.
The first goal of the match which came in 2nd minute of the game was scored by Peter Onah, while substitute, Barnabas Imenger Jnr, increased the goal tally when he scored the second goal of the match in the 87th minute of play. ###
