As part of proactive efforts to put Nigerian boxing on a progressive trajectory in the new sporting calendar, the Nigeria Boxing Federation has unveiled its program of activities for 2026.

This was contained in a well structured document developed by the NBF technical committee and signed by the body’s Secretary General Vivian Azimene.

The well detailed document captured a National Coaches Workshop in the North-Central zone in January. An international friendly match with Rwanda and Madagascar in February before the National Open Trial for the boxers ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Also, in February , is the second phase of the National Coaches Workshop in the South-East.

A plethora of activities are slated for the month of March. They include the World Boxing U-19 future Cup, International Boxing friendly match with Ghana, Registration for National League, opening of the National camp ahead of the Commonwealth Games, as well as the South-south National Coaches Workshop.

The activities will continue in April with Nigeria’s participation at the African Boxing Championship, first World Boxing Cup, continuation of the National Boxing League and National Camp, while the North-west Coaches Workshop will close the activities for the Month.

As contained in the document, the activities will continue into the months of May to August.

The Bauchi Referees/Judges refresher course will be held in September. This will be followed by the boxers’ participation at the National Youth Games.

In October, the focus will move to the 2026 Youth Olympics Games, Lagos Referees/Judges refresher course, and the Military/Para Military Boxing Championships

The IOC/NOC course will be held in November, along with the World Boxing Cup final, a joint National Referees/Coaches Workshop, and the 2026 National Sports Festival.

The maiden president’s belt and award night will close the Nigeria Boxing Federation’s activities for 2026.

The NBF vice President Hon. Omonlei Imadu said the Federation is working assiduously to achieve a record success in its activities all through the year.

“As a federation, i believe we have started very well, we are out to make a bold statement with our activities this year. Hence, they have been well articulated.”

” A sustainable development must be holistic, reason our program and activities captured every aspect of the boxing chain.” Imadu added.

The Yucateco boss, who was recently elected as the Vice President of African Boxing, believes Nigerian boxers will deliver medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
