    New NCC Board Confirmed: Senators Charge Members to Sustain Reforms, Expand Digital Access

    The Senate has confirmed the appointment of a new Board for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), tasking them with consolidating ongoing reforms in the telecommunications sector and expanding digital access across the country.

    The newly confirmed Board members include:

    Chief Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe as Chairman,

    Senator Ramoil Olalekan Mustafa,

    Engr. Ikechukwu Ugwuegede,

    Princess Oristserenwe Emiko,

    Barr. Christopher Sandy Okorie,

    and

    Hajiya Maryam Bayi.

    The President expects the Board to provide bold, transparent, and accountable leadership, focusing on strengthening regulatory independence, improving consumer protection, and accelerating broadband expansion. They are also expected to ensure Nigeria remains a secure and attractive destination for digital investment.

    The new Board brings together experienced professionals and reform-minded leaders to drive the country’s digital economy forward. They will work closely with the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC and the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda for a digitally inclusive, knowledge-driven economy.

    The Board’s priorities include:

    – Consolidating ongoing reforms in the telecommunications sector
    – Expanding digital access across the country
    – Strengthening regulatory independence
    – Improving consumer protection
    – Accelerating broadband expansion
    – Ensuring Nigeria remains a secure and attractive destination for digital investment

    The Senate’s confirmation of the new Board is a significant step towards achieving the country’s digital economy goals.
