The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has said that his administration would continue to respond to criticisms with verifiable projects that are positively impacting the lives of Deltans.

He noted that there had been a few members of opposition political parties in the state who were only functional on social media platforms, adding that “Deltans are aware of the projects executed by his administration in their localities and appreciate what his administration is doing for them”.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Oborevwori spoke on Thursday during the inauguration of Boji-Boji Owa Mixed Modern Market, Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

He said, “the few members of the opposition political parties are only making noise on the social media; our people are seeing and enjoying the projects we have executed in their communities. It is good that with verifiable projects, we are responding to our critics.”

Following the inauguration of the market, Oborevwori ordered the closure of the old abattoir at Boji Boji Owa Market.

He said, “this market, built on the banks of the Orogodo River, is a bridge that connects the SMART to the M.O.R.E.

“The contract for its construction was awarded in the twilight of the last administration as it was championed by the Honourable member representing Ika North-East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly; recognizing the potential of markets in fostering economic growth, I visited this project on 9th November, 2023 to carry-out an on-the-spot assessment to ensure speedy completion.

“This market is fitted with a state-of-the-art abattoir, therefore, let us put an end to all activities in the old abattoir.”

He noted that the market symbolized the vibrant spirit of entrepreneurship and community that “defines Owa people and Deltans in general”.

“It is my firm belief that this facility will not only boost economic activities, but also create jobs, stimulate innovation and improve the overall well-being of the citizens; therefore, the facility must be given timely maintenance to ensure sustainability because, my administration is committed to providing infrastructure that supports trade and investment.

“I urge the traders and artisans who will utilize this facility to take advantage of the opportunities it presents to engage in legitimate business for the good of all,” Oborevwori added.

In her address, the member representing Ika North-East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, disclosed that the location of the market was once a dump site and thanked Governor Oborevwori for his administration’s commitment to the provision of infrastructure.

“Our Governor saw our need, heard our voice and responded with action.

“Our Governor has been instrumental in bringing numerous projects to our community and I am so proud of these achievements by our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, through the MORE Agenda of our working Governor.”

Sir Festus Ogbanzu, who spoke on behalf of impacted communities and Hon. Monday Odigwe, Chairman, Ika North-East Local Government, among others, who spoke at the occasion, thanked Governor Oborevwori for executing people -oriented projects in the state.
