    WAFU-B Women’s Qualifiers: Edo FA salute Victorious Edo Queens

    WAFU-B Women’s Qualifiers: Edo FA salute Victorious Edo Queens

    Edo state Football Association chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunse on behalf of his Board has congratulate the victorious Edo Queens Fc of Benin City, following their triumph at the just concluded WAFU-B Women’s championship in Abidjan on Friday.

    The elated Edo FA boss stated that the success recorded by the Edo state owned women football team in Abidjan is a testament of the massive investment in sports development by the Godwin Obaseki Led Government in Edo state, adding that the state has never had it this good in sports since 1993/ 1994 when Bendel insurance fc ruled west Africa and the entire continent winning the WAFU Cup for keeps and also becoming the second Club in Africa after shooting stars Sports club of Ibadan to win the then CAF Cup now known as CAF confederations Cup.

    ” I am happy this is happening in my time as Edo FA chairman, same for my Exco members and the Local FA chairmen as well, but lets give it to Edo state Government led by Mr Godwin Obaseki for his massive investment in sports development since he came to office in 2016, you recall he rebranded both Bendel insurance fc and Edo Queens, they became the first teams in Nigeria to play each league game with one set of jerseys as they are given out to the fans after every home games , the results is what we are seeing today, last year Bendel insurance fc won the FA Cup after 43 years and went on to compete in the CAF confederation Cup since 2005, while Edo Queens won the NWFL Premiership for the first time, and now WAFU- B Qualifiers, which gives them the ticket to represent the zone at the 4th CAF women’s champions league.

    ” Congratulations to Edo Queens, the officials, players and management for a job well done, they prepared for it and got it right, I have no doubt this team will become Nigeria first side to win the CAF women’s champions league title later this year, Erhunmwunse posited.

    The Moses Aduku Led Edo Queens won all three group games, the semi finals and a commanding 3-0 win against Ainonvi Fc of Benin Republic to win the WAFU- B Qualifiers and pick the sole ticket for the 4th CAF women’s champions league final tournament later this year in a yet to be named country.

    Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens represented Nigeria during the maiden and second edition of the women continental soccer Fiesta, while Delta Queens of Asaba fail to qualify from the WAFU- B Qualifiers in Benin City 2023 losing in the final match to Apem Dakoa ladies of Ghana.
