    Naija Super 8 Playoffs: Lobi Stars Beat City FC, Abuja 5 – 6 On Goal Aggregates

    Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi on Friday beat their opponents City FC of Abuja 5 – 6 in a match that ended in a penalty shootout at Eket Township stadium, Akwa Ibom state in the ongoing Naija Super 8 playoffs.
    Both teams earlier drew 2 – 2 at the end of 90 minutes of play. However, Lobi Stars FC scores 4 goals during the shootout, while City FC, Abuja scored 3 goals.
    In the early minutes of the first half, City FC made some level of incursions into the area of Lobi Stars but were unable to convert their chances into goals.
    However, despite deft play on all sides, as well as foul plays against Lobi Stars’ players, it finally paid off for Lobi in the 30th minute of play when No 29 jersey, David Okoromi of the Makurdi boys opened scores for Lobi.
    Despite attempts at goal by the two teams to either increase the tally or level up, at the end of the first 45 minutes of play, the Abuja boys trailed 0 – 1 behind Lobi Stars FC.
    But, seven minutes into the the second half the Abuja boys were able to equalise through Ibrahim Mafus.
    Again, City FC, Abuja’s Arinze Ogbonna gave his team an edge over Lobi, increasing the tally when he scored from a free kick in the 76th minute.
    Joseph Atule, No 11 shirt for Lobi Stars who earlier missed several scoring chances was rewarded when he leveled the score to 2 – 2 in the 86th minute of play.
    The match later ended in a 2 – 2 draw in the 90 minutes of play, prompting the Referee to opt for a penalty shootout.
    It was in the course of the shoot out that Lobi Stars FC emerged winners of the penalty shootout by scoring 4 goals to 3 against City FC of Abuja, therefore closing the day with Lobi beating the Abuja boys 6 goals to 5 goals. End.
