The eagerly anticipated rebirth of the FCT School Sports Festival, which began yesterday, with registration of Schools, screening of athletes, as well as some events in track aond field, continues today at all of the eight zonal centres – Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Dutse-Alhaji, Tudun Wada, Tunga Maje, Kuje and Karshi.
From the Gwagwalada Centre, comes a report by Olukayode Raymond that schools stationed at that zone took part in six different sports; Football, Volleyball, Handball, Athletics, Table Tennis and Badminton.
In High Jump for Junior Girls, Abubakar Sadiya of JSS Gwako jumped 1.20m to place first; ahead of Ishaku Aisha of Hajj-Camp; while Ochoyoda Miracle of JSS Angwan Dodo did not jump (DNJ).
In Javelin for Senior Girls Mohammed Sumaiya of Vocational Enterprise Institute (VEI) was first with a throw of 11:55m,. whilst Mohammed Al-Nur with a throw of 21.75m placed first in Javelin for Senior Boys.
Katherine Laura took first with a throw of 8.74m to place first in the Javelin Juniors for Boys. In High Jump for Junior Boys Daniel Chukwu of JSS Angwan Dodo jumped 1.50m to take first position while Ekene Okolie of JSS Gwako took second position with a jump of 1.40m and Isaac ThankGod of JSS Hajj-Camp came 3rd, by jumping 1.30m.
Onwe Emmanuel of GSS Gwagwalada, won the Boys High Jump event for Senior Boys by scaling 1.30m; Isah Abdulrazaq of GSS Dobi was 2nd, while Yahaya Shaban of VEI was disqualified.
High Jump for Senior Girls was won by Faustina Ordue of GSS Dobi, who leapt 1.30 m, to beat Olisa Mary of VEI to second spot.
In Athletics (track) Dairu Ismaila of JSS Gwako won the 1500m Junior Boys race. Aguba Favour took first in Junior Girls 1500m, while the
1500m Senior Girls race was won by Obadiah Faith.
1500m Senior Boys honours belongs to Tijani Dauda of GSS Gwagwalada who took first, ahead of Umar Mohammed of GSS Gwako; and Chibuike Victor of School for the Gifted, placed third.
The Blue Riband 100m for Primary School Girls, was won by Jafaru Zaliha of LEA Dobi; Mohammed Ummi Salma of LEA Angwan Dodo was second; and the 100m Primary School Boys was won by Mark Mathieu of LEA Angwan Dodo, ahead of Abdullahi Zulkibir of LEA Dobi.
The 800m Junior Boys was won by Dahiru Ismaila of JSS Gwako, whilst Shaneni Monday of JSS Angwan Dodo placed 2nd. The 800m Junior Girls race was emphatically won by
Aguba Favour of JSS Angwan Dodo who finished well ahead of
Ibrahim Apú Mary of VEI.
And from Tunga Maje Centre, Friday Joshua reports that Eze Roland of GSSS Tunga Maje and Onyike Ebube of GSS Anagada are both into the Long Jump finals of the Senior Boys and Girls event.
Eze Roland jumped a Personal Best (PB) of 5.55m to place first, ahead of Olanrewaju Michael of GSS Anagada (5.29m) and Ohamadike Chika of GSS Airport settled for 3rd with a jump of 5.12m.
The Girls event saw Onyike Ebube of GSS Anagada, who come from behind to win it, with a PB 4.23m. She led Ogbaji Susan of GSSS Tunga Maje (4.16m) and Oseni Khadijat of GSSS Tunga Maje (4.06m).
Eze Roland also won his 100m heat, ahead of Salihu Abubakar of GSS Zuba who came 2nd and Haruna Solomon of GSS Airport who placed 3rd. The Girls 100m race was won by Hajara Mamman of GSSS Tunga Maje, Divine Sunday of GSS Airport was 2nd and Fatima Hassan of GSS Zuba to finished in 3rd.
JSS Zuba dominated the 100m Junior Boys and Girls, following the exploits of Umar Sadiq and Angela. The duo dusted their counterparts from JSS Jiwa to progress to the final.
In the Boys 400m race for Seniors, Ishaq Hamza of GSS Zuban won the event by breezing past Sadiq Aliyu of Tunga Maje and Dahiru Khalifa of GSS Anagada.
Meanwhile Onyike Ebube of GSS Anagada made light walk of Hannah Zachariah of GSS Zuba and Blessing Mhoonun of GSS Airport to winning the Girls event.
JSS Zuba clinched both tickets in the Boys and Girls event of the 400m Juniors, courtesy of Salihub Junaidu and Oyibo Bello’s efforts.
Day Two of the fiesta in Tunga Maje will see actions in the 200m (Junior and Senior) Heats, 800M (Junior and Senior) Heats, 1500m (Junior and Senior) final and Javelin (Junior and Senior) Final.
The preliminary rounds will continue at the zones, until March 2nd, 2024; and the top two performers in each of the zones/events, in the three categories; that’s Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools will qualify for the grand finalé.
The finalé holds at the Main Bowl of the MKO National Stadium, Abuja, and its adjoining facilities from March 11th-14th, 2024.
