Nigeria International Assist Oshoala’s Blaugrana era comes to an end this February 1 following the completion of her transfer to the expansion side Bay FC in the NWSL through 2026 with an option for 2027.
The Super Falcon’s years at Barcelona were filled with success.
She won a pair of European titles as well as Spanish league titles each of the past four seasons.
Since joining the team in 2019, Oshoala proved herself as a goal-scorer and leaves the club today with 117 goals in 162 games to her name.
Oshoala has written history by becoming the first African woman to win the Champions League with Barcelona in 2021.
She is a proven forward who helped the team rise to the top of Europe since joining in 2019.
The 29-year-old, who also had spells with Arsenal and Liverpool in the WSL, was running out of contract this summer, and thus, opted for a new challenge with an ambitious team managed by Albertin Montoya who had announced that a world-class No. 9 was joining the squad.
Knowing it is time for a change in her career, and following in the footsteps of Deyna Castellanos who joined from Manchester City, Oshoala arrived in the Bay Area this week.
Eyes will be set on this duo as they will be demanded to make trouble up front in the club’s first season of existence.
In a team statement, Bay FC general manager Lucy Rushton said “she brings a top-class mentality to the field combined with pace and technical ability that allows her to lead the line, while also giving those players around her the license to be creative and thrive in space.”
Following the confirmation of her transfer, Oshoala thanked her club and its fans via a message on social media. “As I bid farewell to this incredible team and the city that has been my home for the past 5 years, I am filled with mixed emotions,” the Nigerian star striker wrote.
“It has been an absolute honor and privilege to wear the FC Barcelona jersey and represent this prestigious club.”
Oshoala, who joined in 2019, added, “together, we have lifted several trophies and these achievements are a testament to hard work, dedication and I feel privileged to have been a part of this team.”
The six-time African player of the year concluded by thanking the club who have “given me more than I could have ever imagined and I will always be a proud representative of this incredible club.”
Oshoala joins a list of Super Falcons currently active in the National Women’s Soccer League such as Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash), Uchenna Kanu (Racing Louisville FC), and Ifeoma Onumonu (Utah Royals FC).
