    9th National Youth Games: Team Lagos Holds Strong Lead in Asaba

    As the 9th National Youth Games holding in Asaba, Delta state Come to a close this weekend, Team Lagos has continued their impressive run raking in 37 Gold, 17 silver and 14 Bronze Medals totaling 61 medals to remain top of the medals table.

    They are closely followed by Team Edo in second place with 25 Gold , 10 zilver and 16 Bronze medals totaling 51 medals.

    The most successful State in the National Youth Games and 2025 host, Delta ranks third with 19 Gold, 21Silver, and 25 Bronze Medals, totaling 65 medals.

    Lagos has recorded notable Performances from Boxing, Table Tennis, Swimming and Athletics.

    As the Games ends on September 6th, it’s worth noting that the Games have seen some controversy, with allegations of age cheating issues,but however the annual event has also provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their Talents and potentially get discovered for future competitions.

    The Games which kicked off August 29, feature over 6000 Participants from 36 states and the Federal capital Territory, competing in 37 sports disciplines.The event aims to promote Youth development, unity and sports excellence.

    Following the memorandum of understanding signed between Delta state and the then ministry of Sports in 2023, Delta state is expected to host the 2026 Youth Games with some facilities in warri ready for commissioning later this Year that may serves as venue for next edition of the Games
