In just two days, the city of Abeokuta will open its doors to a momentous gathering as the first-ever West Africa Para Games ignite a new chapter in regional sporting cooperation and inclusion.

This event symbolizes a collective step forward for West Africa, one defined by unity, ambition, and the celebration of Para athletic excellence.

Dignitaries from outside Nigeria will include Mr. Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC), who will be a part of the opening ceremony. His leadership continues to strengthen bonds among African nations, inspiring renewed commitment to advancing opportunities for Para athletes across the continent.

Head of Paralympic Committee of Nigeria, Sunday Odebode, said Abeokuta will warmly welcome all delegations from across the sub-region.

For the first time, West African countries will converge under a single multi-sport Para event designed to elevate performance pathways, deepen collaboration, and showcase the remarkable talent of athletes who continue to break barriers.

What sets this edition apart is its symbolic importance: the Games are taking place at a time when Para sport in West Africa is growing stronger, more organized, and increasingly recognized on the global stage. The presence of elite athletes, technical officials, and national leaders signals a shared commitment to building sustainable systems that empower persons with disabilities through sport.

For eight captivating days, Abeokuta will serve as the epicentre of West Africa’s Para sports renaissance. The choice of the city reflects Nigeria’s strategic push to expand its sports economy, an agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose Renewed Hope vision is positioning the country as a preferred host for international competitions.

The iconic Moshood Abiola Sports Arena will provide the stage from November 26 to December 4, offering world-class facilities that affirm Abeokuta’s emergence as Africa’s rising sports capital.
