Liverpool’s €480M Gamble Ends in Total Collapse

On April 14, Liverpool FC were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League after a 2-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, sealing a heavy 4-0 aggregate loss in the quarter-finals.
Despite assembling one of the most expensive squads in both club and football history—with total transfer spending reaching €484 million—the campaign ended in complete disappointment.
Their domestic cup runs also fell apart early. A crushing 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace saw them exit the EFL Cup at the round of 16 stage. In the FA Cup, they suffered a 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
In the Premier League, Liverpool never mounted a serious title challenge, falling well behind in the standings long before the season’s conclusion.
As a result, the club’s pursuit of success across all four competitions ended in failure, confirming a trophyless 2025–26 season.
