The Long-running Legal Dispute between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain Ends in Massive Payout from Former Club.

    By: Osabuohien Imuetinyanosa

The long running battle between the Frenchman and PSG after his departure as a free agent from PSG to Real Madrid, which has won several front pages has finally ended in favour of Kylian Mbappé as The Conseil de prud-hommes de Paris has ordered PSG to pay Mbappé more than €60 million ($70 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses. Mbappé left the French club in the summer of 2024, joining Real Madrid on a free transfer after allowing his PSG contract to expire.

Initially lawyers operating for Mbappé demanded more than $300 million from PSG. In turn the French club asked for more than $500 million from Mbappé, citing damages after their star player left on a free.

Tuesday’s news is a major victory for Mbappé, who was once the crowning jewel of the PSG project. However it is unlikely that this latest decision will truly be decisive, with PSG still able to appeal it in the courts.

Speaking on Tuesday, Mbappé’s representatives said that the ruling “confirms that commitments must be honored. It restores a simple truth: Even in the professional football industry labor law applies to everyone.”

“Mbappé scrupulously fulfilled his sporting and contractual obligations for seven years and right up to the final day,” the statement continued. “He did everything possible to avoid litigation, even going so far as to withdraw a harassment complaint in a spirit of conciliation. In total, he had been seeking payment of his salaries and bonuses for more than 18 months.”
