Finland-Based Nigerian Coach Victor Uzoho Urges NFF to Provide Full Support and Autonomy for Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle

Victor Uzoho, a Finland-based Nigerian football coach, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to provide full institutional backing and technical autonomy to Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, in order to ensure his success.

Speaking as the Special Guest on the Guest of the Month virtual program hosted by the Ex-University of Ibadan Footballers Association, Uzoho stressed the importance of allowing Chelle to execute his vision without interference.

“Well, the NFF has given this job to Coach Eric. With all due respect, he has his own models, his own branding,” Uzoho said. “I believe the NFF must now give him everything he needs—technically and otherwise. Most importantly, they must give him the freedom to decide on player invitations, team composition, and tactical approaches.”

Uzoho warned that technical interference from football administrators has been a recurring problem in African football, often crippling even the most qualified coaches. He emphasized that a coach’s success is closely tied to the freedom he’s allowed to implement his plans.

“No matter how good a player is, if he doesn’t align with the coach’s tactical philosophy, he shouldn’t be forced into the lineup,” Uzoho added. “That’s why decisions must be left to the coach, not dictated by external interests.”

Chelle’s appointment has generated mixed reactions within the Nigerian football community. While some question his experience, others, including Uzoho, view it as a step toward empowering African coaches and fostering a more modern and accountable football culture.

Uzoho, who currently serves as Assistant Coach at FC POHU in Helsinki and boasts over a decade of coaching experience in Finland, highlighted the importance of giving Chelle a fair chance. His track record includes medal-winning campaigns in Finnish football, showcasing his credibility in talent development and team management.

“Chelle should be judged by his results—not by sentiment or politics,” Uzoho said. “If he’s allowed to work transparently, with clear goals and the resources needed, I’m confident he can move the Super Eagles forward.”

As Nigeria prepares for crucial World Cup qualifiers and continental competitions, Uzoho’s message echoes a growing consensus among football professionals: to succeed, the Super Eagles need not just a capable coach, but an empowered one.
