    3 Days to Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Can Anyone Top Nyango’s Record?

    With just three days to the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, a familiar question is back on the streets and among athletics watchers across the country: who will rise to surpass the Nigerian standard set by Nyango Gyang Boyi?

    Boyi etched his name into the history of the race as the first Nigerian to finish the Lagos marathon, delivering a landmark performance that redefined local ambition. He powered his way into the overall top 10, finishing eighth with a time of 2:25:41.58, a result that carried both prestige and reward.

    That historic run earned Boyi a $4,000 prize for his overall placement, alongside the ₦2 million top prize in the Nigerian category. More importantly, it proved that Nigerian runners could compete shoulder to shoulder with elite international fields on home soil.

    As the countdown ticks on, attention now shifts to the next wave of local contenders. Can anyone match Boyi’s grit, pace and composure over 42.195 kilometres? Or will a new name emerge to push the benchmark even further and rewrite the Nigerian chapter of the Lagos City Marathon?

    In three days’ time, the answer will unfold on the roads of Lagos, where history waits to be chased, and another Nigerian dream could cross the finish line.
