The Niger Delta Games is heating up with just two weeks left of it.

Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, the Project Consultant, recently met with the President of Benson Idahosa University and the Bishop of the Headquarters Branch of the Church of God Mission International to discuss strategic partnerships for the upcoming Games.

This meeting highlights the crucial role Benson Idahosa University will play in making the Niger Delta Games a success.

The Games, scheduled to take place from February 20-27, 2026, in Benin City, Edo State, will feature 17 sports and athletes from nine oil-producing states.

The event aims to promote youth talent development and sports growth in the Niger Delta region.

Benson Idahosa University has a strong sports background, having topped the medal table at the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) event.

The university’s involvement is expected to boost the Games’ profile and provide opportunities for young athletes to showcase their skills.

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is sponsoring the Games, and organizers are working to ensure a successful event.

With preparations gathering momentum, states like Delta, Imo, Edo, and Akwa Ibom are intensifying their training and scouting efforts to field strong teams .
