Arda Guler doesn’t expect to go out on loan, adding that he would fight for his spot in Real Madrid’s midfield where veteran Luka Modric plays a pivotal role.
The 18-year-old made this assertion earlier today, during his first interview as a Real Madrid player following his unveiling before the Spanish and Turkish media.
“They have assured me that I am going to play, and it is over. Going out on loan is not in my plans,” said the Turkish midfielder, who officially joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahce on Thursday on a six-year contract for €27 million.
Dubbed Turkish Messi, Guler spoke of his numerous suitors, his relationship with Mesut Ozil, and his preferred position, describing Luka Modric as his favourite Real Madrid player.
He said, “There have been many clubs that have shown their interest, and we maintained contact with some, but when Real Madrid came in and told me that I was going to be able to play, the rest of the offers lost value. This is the best club in the world, and there was no need for them to tell me anything more to convince me.
“The coach called me and told me that he wanted to see me live. He told me where he was going to put me; there are a lot of conversations.
“There are many good players. I am prepared to compete, and I am going to win my position. I will give everything to win my place at the club. I want to stay and play here. If they give me opportunities to play, I will take advantage of them. There is no other possibility in my plans. They have offered me to play, and I’m going to do it.
“Real Madrid has a very important heritage. Cristiano Ronaldo, Zil, Zidane, Guti… They are legends, and I want to be part of this history.
“In the centre of the field is where I find myself best. But it is not important because I want to win the position. I want to be an offensive player and create goal-scoring situations. The position is determined by the coach. I play well in the centre and also on the right wing.
“They are all very important, but for me, Modri is the best midfielder in the world, and I am going to take this opportunity to learn a lot from him. I respect him a lot.
“He (Ozil) told me that Real Madrid is the most important club in the world. We have a brotherly relationship, and he has always spoken highly of the club and given me good advice.”
