Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tasked National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Lagos to work hard to surpass the records set by their predecessors in the efforts to build a new Nigeria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by Mobolaji Ogunlende, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, stated this in his message to signal the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Temporary Camp in Iyana Ipaja, Agege, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu, who was delighted at the event, congratulated the corps members for being considered eligible to participate in the noble exercise, which heralded with the swearing-in ceremony.
“As you join the service today, l enjoin you to take up the challenge of emulating and surpassing the achievements of your predecessors in service.
“Do not pay lip-service to the words of the oath of allegiance; let it be your guide and a constant a reminder of your duty and obligation to your fatherland.
“You must take note of the fact that to have a beautiful, memorable and very successful service year, you must be deliberate about the journey,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He assured that his administration “Will continue to provide the enabling environment for the scheme to achieve its goals and objectives”.
Earlier, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Yetunde Baderinwa, announced that a total of 2,577 corps members consisting of 745 males and 1,832 females were administered the oath of allegiance by the Lagos Chief Judge, represented by Justice Adeyemi Aderera at the camp.
She added, “However, due to the space constraints, we have 637 in Osun, consisting of 280 males and 357 females. 506 in Ogun consisting of 203 males and 303 females”.
Baderinwa, who appreciated Ogunlende, who doubles as the chairman of the NYSC Governing in Lagos State, said the orientation course that formed the first cardinal activities of a service year is characterised by various pieces of training, leadership and social activities about the aims and objectives of the scheme to make youth better persons.
She applauded the interest of Governor Sanwo-Olu in the scheme and for coming up with activities that have continued to impact the lives of youths and aiding the seamless operation of the scheme in the state.
Baderinwa commended other collaborating agencies, especially the management of One-Data, for making available free access to Internet services for the corps members at the orientation camp.
