All roads will lead to Ossomala in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State this week as the burial rites of Late Madam Regina Ononuju Awogu (née Nwadukwe), mother of renowned sports administrator and journalist, Chief Felix Awogu, commence.
The funeral activities will begin on Thursday, April 16, 2026, with a vigil mass at her residence, while the burial mass is scheduled for Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ossomala.
The Ossomala community is already witnessing an influx of dignitaries, as prominent figures from the sports and business sectors arrive to pay their last respects.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Awogu who also serves as General Manager and Head of Outside Broadcast at SuperSport revealed that several high-profile personalities are expected to attend.
Among them are the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somto Udeze; Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko; Chief Yemi Idowu; Engr. Nnamdi Ezigbo and Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, among others.
Late Madam Regina Awogu, who passed on in February 2026 at the age of 90, is widely remembered as a woman of grace and virtue, whose life was marked by service to God and humanity. Her burial has been described by family and associates as a celebration of a fulfilled and impactful life.
