Victor Osimhen claimed the Best African International Player prize at the Ghana Football Awards

The Nigerian international edged Mohamed Salah, Riyad Mahrez and Yassine Bounou to the prestigious prize.

The Napoli hitman has won the award for the first time and became the first Nigerian to achieve the feat.

The 24-year-old had a remarkable 2023-24 season helping Napoli to the Scudetto for the first time in over three decades, scoring 26 league goals.

He also helped the club reach the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

Osimhen also netted a brace as Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 in Monrovia to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations starting in Ivory Coast in January.

At the Ghana Football Awards, the Super Eagles striker received the highest number of votes ahead of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and Yassine Bounou of Morocco.

At the awards, Mohammed Kudus was named the Ghana Footballer of the Year after an outstanding season with his club and country.

Kudus was the best player for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he scored two goals and provided an assist in three games.

The 22-year-old also played a key role at Ajax last season, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists across all competitions for the Dutch giants.
