Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or Socrates Award for her work with the Asisat Oshoala Academy.

Oshoala was nominated for one of the categories of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, with Marcus Rashford and Vinicius Jr among the other nominees for the same honour.

The Super Falcons striker is one of the five nominees for the Socrates Award (named after the late Brazilian great), which “identifies the best solidarity actions carried by committed champions”, according to Ballon d’Or organizers France Football.

The other nominees in the category are Marcus Rashford, Vinicius Jr and Antonio Rudiger, as well as United States Women’s National Team star Alex Morgan.

The 28-year-old Barcelona star and Nigeria international is nominated for her Asisat Oshoala Academy, which helps in shaping the future of young girls in Lagos through football and education.

The Socrates Award was introduced by the Ballon d’Or organizers in 2022 to appreciate humanitarian services rendered by footballers to their community with Sadio Mane winning the maiden edition.

The winners of the 2023 Socrates Award and other Ballon d’Or prizes will be named on September 6.
