    NYG 2025: FA Boss Erhunmwunse hail Team Edo Bronze medal win in Female Football event

    As the race to win the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba Delta heats up, Team Edo has continued to win more medals.

    The latest medal came in female football on Thursday afternoon, as Team Edo secured the Bronze medal after defeating Team Ogun 6-5 in a Penalty shootout, following a goaless draw at full time, in a thrilling match decided at St Patrick’s college Sports Ground in Asaba.

    An elated Edo FA chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunse who monitored the tension soaked encounter from Benin city, congratulated the team for their resilience, commitment and hard work, while commending the Team handlers for a job well done.

    ‘ for me this is a plus for Edo, and i am happy they got the Bronze at last, if my records are correct, it should be Team Edo first ever Bronze medal in football ( female) at the Games since inception, and this is good for the development of football in Edo state, great job by the team handlers,

    ” I must commend the Edo state sports Commission led by Hon Amadin Desmond Enabulele for his vision and efforts to return Edo state to its number one position in Sports in the Nigeria, just as we are grateful to our amiable Govenor Senator Monday Okpebholo for his massive support for Sports development in Edo state, the Edo FA chairman stated.

    Meanwhile host Delta will slug it out in the female football final against Lagos state while Team Oyo will lock horns against Team Abia in the Boys final of the Football event.

    The 9th National Youth Games will climax on Saturday 6th September 2025 inside the Stephen keshi stadium, Asaba Delta state.
