The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, has extended his condolences to the Nigerian sports community following the passing of Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).

Engr. Akindoju was a respected sports administrator and leader in Nigerian and African tennis. He served as NTF President, Treasurer of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), and in various other roles, including membership on the NOC Executive Board.

In a statement, Engr. Gumel described Akindoju’s death as a major blow to the nation’s sports community, praising his dedication and commitment to developing tennis in Nigeria. “His death is a huge loss, not only to the tennis family but to the entire Olympic Movement,” Engr. Gumel said.

Akindoju was known for his focus on grassroots development and producing world-class Nigerian tennis players. He sponsored events like the VEMP Open tennis championship and provided international exposure for players and officials through his company, Dayak Nigeria Limited.

The NOC awaits further directive from the late Akindoju family to announce the funeral arrangements.
