Ezinne Kalu, the Nigerian basketball sensation, has just joined Wuhan Shengfan, a top team in China’s Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA), for the 2025/26 season.
This move marks a new chapter in Kalu’s illustrious career, as she seeks to balance club duties with Nigeria’s international aspirations.
A four-time AfroBasket champion, Kalu brings a wealth of experience and leadership to Wuhan Shengfan. Her impressive stats with Zhejiang, where she averaged 21.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.5 steals per game, made her a sought-after player.
Kalu’s international career has been nothing short of spectacular moves. She’s a key player for Nigeria’s D’Tigress, leading the team to five consecutive AfroBasket titles and securing a spot at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Her individual excellence earned her the 2019 AfroBasket MVP award.
This isn’t Kalu’s first rodeo in China. She’s had stints in Europe, playing for teams in France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Russia, and Turkey. Her adaptability and elite consistency have made her a force to be reckoned with.
Wuhan Shengfan is banking on Kalu’s leadership and playmaking skills to push for domestic glory. With the AfroBasket glory still fresh and another World Cup on the horizon, Kalu’s move to Wuhan signals her continued quest for excellence across continents.
