Ahead of the 2023 Women World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, the camp of the Super Falcons formerly opened in Abuja on Thursday, Daily Independent has been told.

Our correspondent gathered from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that top players like Asisat Oshoala, Onome Ebi and Raheedat Ajibade are the early birds expected to hit the camp of the team this week.

The women World Cup will take place between July 20 and and August 20, 2023 and will be co-hosted for the first time ever outside Europe and America by Australia and New Zealand.

America’s Major League Soccer trio – Michelle Alozia of Houston Dash, Ifeoma Onumonu of New York FC, and Uchenna Kanu of Racing Louisville FC will join about 20 others at the National Stadium in Abuja from Thursday.

With the World Cup less than a month away, Randy Waldrum and his ladies will be looking to cross the Round of 16 stages at least, with Canada, the Republic of Ireland, and host nation Australia, as the first-round hurdle to climb.

Games in Groups A, C, E, and G will be played across four cities in New Zealand – Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, and Hamilton, as the Super Falcons in Group B will ply their trade alongside Groups D, F, and H across five cities in Australia – Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
