Finidi George, the coach of Enyimba, has attributed his side’s 2-1 loss to Remo Stars in the opening match of the Naija Super 8 in Lagos on Friday to boredom.
Remo Stars came better of Enyimba 2–1 in the opening match of the Naija Super 8 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) on Friday.
The match was the curtain raiser of the highly-anticipated Naija Super 8 organised by Flykite Productions.
In the game the Sky Blue showed so much resilience, they took the lead in the twenty one minutes through a solo effort from their strike, Isaac James. The goal brought the best out of the reigning Nigerian champions as Enyimba piled pressure on the Ogun State-based side.
The effort paid off just five minutes after Remo led as a combination of efforts and good work inside t he Remo vital area provided a thorough pass to Chisom Okeke, who made no mistake in slotting home to level scores.
All efforts by both sides to find the back of the net in the remaining minutes of the first half proved futile as the first forty five minutes ended in the draw.
In the restart, they started from where they stopped as both teams went out for goals but it was Remo that got the winning goal in the 58 minutes through Ogurobigbe Seun.
Speaking moments after the game, the former Super Eagles manager said his players could understandably be tired given that they arrived from Aba while Remo traveled from Ogun State to Lagos, noting that the players had been on the road for now from winning the league, going to Eket for the Naija Super 8 playoff and then traveling from Aba down to Lagos.
“My boys tried and I am very proud of how they played today (Friday) because they have not rested.
“In fact we have not rested all through the season. I am not making excuses but traveling from Aba down here is a job of its own while our opponents just came down from Ogun State.
“However, like I said we are not making excuses but we hope to bounce back on the other games and qualify for the semifinal,” he said.
