The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) played host to the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agency (SSASCFA) at its headquarters in Osho Drive, Olodo Apapa, Lagos. The visit marked a significant milestone in the history of the two organizations, as they seek to rekindle their relationship and strengthen their collaboration.
Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye, President-General of SSASCFA, led the delegation and expressed his delight in visiting the MWUN headquarters. He commended Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, MWUN’s President-General, for his innovative approach to leadership and the transformation of the Dockworkers since his assumption of office.

Asonye recalled his previous visits to the Union and prayed that Comrade Bunu’s achievements would surpass those of his predecessors. He emphasized the importance of the relationship between the two organizations, stating that they cannot operate in isolation and that the existing cordial relationship must be reawakened for operational efficiency.
Comrade Bunu welcomed the delegation and thanked them for their visit, which he described as timely and a gesture of faith in the Union. He acknowledged the disconnect between the junior and senior cadres of the Shipping representations and expressed his desire to bridge this gap for industrial growth and success in the sector.
The MWUN President-General proposed a collaboration between the two organizations to unionize shipping outfits where there are lapses, for the benefit of employees and employers. He assured the Association of his unwavering commitment and the Union’s support towards rekindling their relationship for mutual benefits, progress, and development of the maritime industry.
Comrade Bunu reiterated his total commitment and cooperation to the Association, encouraging Comrade Asonye to feel free to approach the Union at any time to discuss issues of mutual interest. He promised to reciprocate the visit in the near future to further strengthen their collaboration.
The visit marked a new era of cooperation between MWUN and SSASCFA, with both organizations poised to work together to achieve greater heights in the maritime industry.
