In a significant development, Melsmore Marine Limited, a prominent marine company based in Victoria Island, Lagos, has signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN).
The agreement, signed on Monday, marks a major milestone in the relationship between the company and the union, representing a significant achievement for both parties.
Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, the leader of MWUN, praised all concerned saying, the agreement is a testament to the company’s commitment to the welfare of its workers. “No good industrial firm will neglect the welfare of its workers, and moral ethics of its status quo,” he said, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing workers’ well-being.
Comrade Abi praised Melsmore Marine Limited for understanding the industrial working pace and recognizing the value of its workers, stating that the company is a shining example of a maritime sector organization that prioritizes its employees’ welfare.
The agreement includes a significant increase in the remuneration of Melsmore workers, bringing their wages in line with the current living standard in Nigeria.
Comrade Abi assured the management of Melsmore Marine Limited of the union’s continued commitment to a harmonious relationship, stating that the agreement would boost worker ‘s morale and productivity, ultimately benefiting the company’s growth.
The MWUN leader thanked the management of Melsmore Marine Limited for their willingness to listen to the union’s concerns and work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.
He expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to flourish, contributing to the growth and development of the maritime sector in Nigeria.
