Manchester City lifted the 2026 Carabao Cup with a 2–0 victory over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium, thanks to two swift second‑half strikes from Nico O’Reilly that proved decisive.
The match began as a tense tactical affair, with both teams careful not to concede early. Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League, started brightly and pressed high, while Manchester City controlled possession and probed patiently for openings. Despite some promising moments on both flanks, neither side could break the deadlock before half‑time, and the score remained 0–0 at the break.
The contest sprang to life soon after the interval. In the 60th minute, Manchester City took the lead when O’Reilly capitalised on a loose ball in the penalty area to score from close range. Just four minutes later, in the 64th minute, he doubled City’s advantage with a well‑timed header, finishing off a slick team move that put the visitors firmly in control.
Trailing by two goals, Arsenal sought a response and introduced attacking changes, but Manchester City’s defensive organisation and game management snuffed out their efforts. City controlled possession for long stretches, frustrated Arsenal’s attacking patterns and saw out the remainder of the match with composure.
O’Reilly’s performance earned him man‑of‑the‑match honours, and Guardiola’s side demonstrated the kind of clinical efficiency often seen in cup finals. Arsenal, despite showing promise for much of the clash, will be left to ponder missed opportunities and critical errors that ultimately decided their afternoon.
With today’s win, Manchester City add another domestic trophy to their collection while Arsenal turn their focus back to the Premier League title race.
