Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo says his rejoining Kasimpassa Football Club from Spain’s Segundo division side CD Leganés is a step-up for him, and affords him the opportunity to undertake a fresh challenge, at the prime of his career as a professional footballer.
The 29-year-old Omeruo stated this in an exclusive chat with Sports Day, moments after inking a three year contract, that will see him play for the Turkish Super Lig side, until June 30, 2026.
“I’m truly excited to have returned to Turkey, to the warm embrace of the set-up at Kasimpassa. It’s a familiar ground, and like another home for me, having been here twice before between 2015 and 2016, then from 2017-2018. Omeruo said.
“Kasimpassa is and would always be part of me, it’s team I actually cherish so much, even when I left Kasimpassa for the first time, I kept following there progress. When I came back for the second time, the same thing applied, and this is my third stint with the club and that tells the excellent relationship, I have with the team and how much more I want to wear that jersey again”, he added.
The rock solid defender who played at the Under-17 and Under-20 setups for Nigeria before making his debut for the Super Eagles in 2012 revealed that a good number of clubs in Europe, including a couple in the Saudi Arabia Pro League also wanted his services; but he and his agent decided that re-joining Kasimpassa was the only realistic option; because their offer is good, and suits him, and he is so glad that he signed for 3 years.
He said settling down, and being reintegrated with the squad should be less tasking, and he is eagerly looking forward to wearing the Blue-and-White colours of Kasimpassa again, in a competitive match.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Gold Medal Winner, concluded by giving God special praise for guiding him through his chequred football journey that began when he went on trials at Belgian ginats Andelecht, before he signed for Standard Liége, and eventually got snapped up by Chelsea of England and up to his glorious time in Spain with Leganés, who also were helpful in ensuring that the deal was struck.
Omeruo will be looking to emulate the pioneering legion of former Super Eagles stars, like Uche Okechukwu, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, and Daniel Amokachi; as well as the ever growing population of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Stars, led by current Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa that have successfully wrote their names in Gold, in the Folklore of the Turkish football, especially the Super Lig.
