Nigerian-born Polish striker, Emmanuel Olisadebe is over the moon that his mentee, Robert Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in world football today.
The former Polonia Warsaw forward, whose eight goals propelled Poland to the 2002 World Cup, recalls with nostalgia how Lewandowski came to him for blessing.
“I feel really happy and proud today that my mentee has surpassed my achievements for Poland and he’s today one of the deadliest and best strikers in world football.
“I remember how I touched Lewandowski’s head to give him my blessing.
“Today he’s Poland’s greatest and most successful player.
“Like every father or teacher would want his son or student to be better than him, Lewy has made me proud.
Olisadebe scored Poland’s only goal at Korea/Japan 2002 world cup in their final group game against United States, which was the fastest goal at the world cup, before the record was later broken by Hakan Sukur, a Turkish player.
He played for the following clubs before his retirement from football: Jasper United, Polonia Warsaw, Panathinaikos, Portsmouth, Skoda Xanthi (loan), APOP Kinyras Peyias, and Henan Construction.
