To alleviate poverty and empower vulnerable women in Ovia South-West community, the King E. Obamedo Foundation has empowered some women with financial support.
The event, tagged 50+50 and held at Iguobazuwa, the administrative headquarters of Ovia South-West local government area of Edo Statehad beneficiaries, including pregnant women, nursing mothers, widows and the elderly.
According to the founder, Mr. Efosa Obamedo, the inauguration marked the first official activity since being floated.
“Having lived abroad, we understand that many women in Nigeria and other parts of the country including Edo State are not getting enough to meet up economically compared to their counterparts in the USA and Europe hence this programme was initiated to support and bring relief not only to our women, but to the society at large”.
“Many of you live under poor economic condition in our society. Some of you need financial start-ups and other forms of assistance to survive the economic realities on ground”.
Obamedo added that with more funding and support, the Foundation plans to move beyond short-term aid to offering regular skills acquisition programmes aimed at income generation and entrepreneurship.
He disclosed that Iguobazuwa was chosen for the launch as a way to give back to the Ovia South-West local government area which comprises Ikoha, noting that the King E. Obamedo Foundation was founded to immortalise his mother, late Mrs.Nosakhare Obamedo, whose generosity was felt across communities in Ovia and BeninCity, and also to mark his 50th birthday which was February 7.
Programme Manager of the Foundation, Mr. Joseph Gbale, emphasised that the foundation is a non-partisan body whose aims are not limited to empowering women but also aimed at bringing smiles to the faces of vulnerable Nigerians in the midst of the social economic realities in the country.
In their goodwill remarks, some party representatives in Ovia South-West, including the PDP, APC & ADC, commended the founder for his generosity and support, describing his gesture as worthy of emulation.
“Though the event is not political, but we are indeed pleased and grateful to the King E. Obamedo Foundation for empowering our women and mothers in respective of party affiliation. It portrays the founder as a bridge-builder”, they concluded.
The beneficiaries who were highly elated, expressed gratitude to the King E. Obamedo Foundation describing the founder Efosa Obamedo as a source of renewed hope amid the economic hardship and wished him many happy returns of his birthday and continued blessings.
