The Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., has inaugurated the organizing Committee for the maiden Edition of the HOS football tournament scheduled to hold in Benin City.
The Eight-member committee which has a seasoned sports administrator
Victor Edokpayi as chairman, also has a retired FIFA referee Faith Irabor as member.
Other members include immidiate past Secretary of Edo state football Association, Elder Emmanuel Ajibola, Mr Vincent Ikeke of the ITC department, Government house, Director of Sports Benson Idahosa university and former Board member of Edo FA Fred Newton, Dr Richard Alabi of the Edo state Sports commission, and a seasoned Sports journalist Joseph Isokpehi. Benita Oghosa a staff of the HOS office, is to serve as its secretary.
Speaking during the inauguration in his office at the Government House, the Head of Service disclosed that the cup was donated by a good Samaritan who has found good the work Edo state Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki is doing in the State.
‘It will be on record that this is the very first time this will be taking place in Edo State, so we have to appreciate our Amiable Governor, the Deputy Governor Rt. Hon Philip shaibu, Edo sports commission and everyone who is making sure Sports thrive in the state”, the HOS noted.
He enjoined members of the committee to work in synergy to ensure a successful football tournament, noting that with the calibre of people there-in, he has the confidence that things will work out well.
Tasking the committee to put in their best to ensure that they deliver a good tournament to the satisfaction of all, Okungbowa charged that even though there hasn’t been a precedent to the HOS cup, they should put in their best to make the tourney a huge success.
He assured of the state Government’s readiness to give the committee all necessary logistics support that would elevate the standard of the football fiesta.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Mr. Victor Edokpayi informed the Head of Service that the committee would do everything within their means to ensure they deliver on assigned duties.
He said the HOS football tournament will be physically and socially engaging for participating civil and public servants to meet the desired objectives of the tourney.
“The tournament is designed to promote social interaction and physical wellbeing of public Servants across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state”, Edokpayi concluded.
