With few weeks to the commencement of the 2023/2024 new season in Europe, the bragging rights are on again, regarding which teams will prize away the covetous trophy in their various domestic league across the top 5 major European leagues, albeit England, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.
Today, we take a dig at the favourite teams to finish in the top 3 spots in the top 5 major leagues in Europe.
We may not be exactly 100% correct at the end of the day, considering that football is a very unpredictable game, but with available statistics, current form, team strength, team depth, history and firm understanding of the game, we will not be too far from being accurately correct.
England: The EPL title is still Man City’s to lose. The Citizens at least for the now remains not only the best team in England but one of the best in the world. They are a compact side with world class players right from their goalkeeper to their attack.
Not even Real Madrid can match their squad depth, as they possess a squad depth which is second to none. With an average of at least two top class players in each position that can make starting 11 in any other team in the EPL makes City top favourite for the top prize which they have won consecutively in the last three years.
Erling Haaland will also be a huge factor and difference as the Norwegian will shatter more records this season. Although, many have argued that he may not be able to repeat his last season’s impressive feat, but we don’t agree with this submission considering City’s free-flowing playing style.
Arsenal and Chelsea will finish second and third respectively all things being equal.
Germany: Bayern Munich has almost turned the Bundesliga title to their birthright. With 11 consecutive titles and still counting, it’s evident that they have no match as far as that league is concerned. Other teams in the league does not have what it takes to compete with them, which is why they will continue to dominate. Dortmund and the rest can only try but Bayern will always hold sway. The sale of Jude Bellingham by Dortmund to Real Madrid has further weakened the team. Dortmund, Leipzig will still finish second and third in the coming season.
France: PSG won their third straight Ligue 1 title last season and their 9th in eleven years to reconfirm their dominance. Even though Lionel Messi has left the club to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the US, and very strong rumours of Kylian Mbappe departure, PSG is still formidable enough to continue their dominance. Marseille, Lille or Monaco will finish second and third in the league.
Spain: The La Liga will witness a fierce battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid. But unless Real buys Mbappe or a notable goal scorer to fill the shoes of their departed skipper, Karim Benzema, who moved to Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ittihad, Barcelona will run away with the title again. Otherwise, it’s a close call to make and the pendulum can just swing to anywhere. But what is as certain as day light is that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will finish in the top three on the league table.
Italy: Napoli won the Serie A last season after 33 years of asking. They did it in such an emphatic style, beating the usual suspects Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus to the title.
However, whether they will repeat such superlative performance this season is another matter entirely. No doubt, Inter, Milan and Juventus will give them great run for their money.
It’s therefore going to be a battle between Napoli and Inter for the Scudetto while Milan follows in third position.
But to keep to key players like Victor Osimhen and the like is very key to this tall ambition or quest.
