CAF Women champions league WAFU B qualifiers: Edo Queens will not disappoint- FA Boss
As the much awaited CAF women champions league WAFU B qualifiers begins this Sunday August 11th 2024 in Abidjan ivory coast, The Edo state Football Association chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunse has urged Nigeria representative Edo Queens Fc of Benin City to go all the way and qualify for the final tournament proper.
The Edo FA boss in a chat with the press in Benin City ahead of the start of the women sub regional event which serves as qualifiers for the 4th CAF Women champions League, said he is optimistic the Obaseki Girls will live up to expectations in Abidjan and get the sole ticket to represent WAFU B zone.
‘Edo Queens fc made us proud when they lifted the NWFL Premiership Super Six tournament in Yenegoa, Bayelsa state this year, it was massive for them and Edo state, it was the first time in the club history to achieve the feat, they have been preparing for the tournament for about a month now before departing for ivory coast, I am very optimistic that they will not disappoint.
“The team is well prepared and they know what is expected of them in Abidjan which is the ticket to represent the zone at the main tournament Proper, they should take every game like a cup final and be focused, we shall continue to pray for them to succeed, onbehalf of Edo FA, we wish them all the best, Erhunmwunse stated.’
The Edo FA boss who also thank the Edo state Government and the sports commission for their support towards the team, however want the Nigeria champions to play like the champions they are in Abidjan, and as Nigeria Ambassadors now they should be disciplined all times during the qualifiers as the entire nation and the Nigeria community in ivory coast are surely behind them.
Edo Queens are in Group B of the WAFU B qualifiers and will on Sunday August 11th 2024 open the Group phase with a clash against Ominisports Etinchelle Fc of Burkinafaso, before taking on Hasscas Ladies of Ghana on August 14th 2024, while their last group game will be against AS Garde Nationale of Niamey, Niger Republic on August 17th. Group A house the host inter d’ Abidjan Fc of ivory coast, Asko De Kara Fc of Togo and Ainonvi Fc of Benin Republic.
All matches Will take place at the famous Stade Felix Houphouet Boigny champroux Stadium in ivory coast.
This year CAF women’s Champions League Qualifiers marks the start to another exciting season of the tournament that will see clubs at zonal level pitted against each other to context for a place at this season CAF women’s Champions League Finals later this year.
South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns are the reigning and two time champions of the competition.
