Plans are underway by the management of Lobi Stars Football Club (FC) of Makurdi, Benue State to float the female wing of the team to be known as Lobi Queens Football Club (FC).
The management of Lobi Stars FC has also put plans in top gear to embark on a talent hunt for potential boys and girls in the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state that would make up the Under – 13, 14 and 15 teams for the state.
Vice Chairman, Lobi Stars FC, Dominic Iorfa disclosed this during a live programme on three different radio stations in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
According to him, it was currently engaging a female FC, ‘Honey Bajars’ with the view to take over the team and rename it Lobi Queens, adding that soon as it secures the right of the club, it would bring in talents that would be used to boost the team from those identified during the talent hunt.
Speaking on the topic “Football Development in Benue State”, Iorfa explained that the talent hunt to raise young male and female players is in line with the recent circular issued by football authorities in the country that every NPFL Club must have female and Laliga teams as a criteria for club licencing in the coming season.
He also stated that arrangements have been concluded to commence the talent hunt for both boys and girls, to take them off the streets and present them with an opportunity to embrace and pursue their careers in the Under – 13, 14, and 15 categories.
Iorfa also assured Benue people and football fans that football in Benue State will experience a huge transformation in the sector as modalities were in place to achieve that objective.
Apart from being trained to participate in NPFL Laliga programmes SportsDay gathered that the potential players that would be identified during the talent hunt would also be used as feeder for Lobi Stars FC.
In his contribution at the occasion, the Head, Technical Department, Benue State Football Association (BSFA), Steven Waghbo noted that the Governor’s Cup which has gone extinct would be revived for the discovery of talents that would fit into Lobi Stars senior team to complement the good work the Iorfa administration was doing.
On his part, the Chairman Nigeria Coaches Association, Benue State chapter, Eugene Agagbe said the opportunity presented would be used to engage coaches in the state to impact knowledge and guide players to develop their potentials to becoming professional footballers.
Meanwhile, the Director of Media, Lobi Stars FC, Emmanuel Ujah stressed the importance of media in the programme and assured of total cooperation with media houses, the social media, running of jingles for proper awareness creation even as he urged media houses to always verify information about Lobi Stars before going to press.
