Ahead of the kick-off of the preliminary round of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle, tagged the Prosperity Cup, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere has received the tournament’s branded jersey.
The presentation of the jersey was done at his residence in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital ahead of this weekend’s kick-off in Sangana and Okpoama centres in Brass Local Government Area of the State.
The brief ceremony was performed by members of Central Organizing Committee, led by Head of Governmental Affairs and Community Relations, Rev Vincent Dowell.
Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere is expected to take the kick-off at the Sangana centre at 9:00am as Tough Dynamite FC battles Brass Boys FC.
The Speaker in a remark, noted that he is elated that the tournament has become the pride of grassroots football in the nation, maintaining that the competition is the launchpad of discovery of talents.
According to him, the continuous growth of the tournament was indicative of the governor’s undiminished commitment to the development of sports, describing the competition as a breeding ground for young players in the State.
He noted that due to official engagement that he was not going to take the kick-off but has delegated someone to do so at the Sangana centre, pointing out that he is fully in support of the tournament.
Elsewhere, at the Okpoama centre, Canaan FC will entertain Kurotee FC in the match of the day by 11:00am, Ibidi FC will be up against Igoni FC in the second game at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 7th 2026.
Ama-gbo FC will face Egweama FC on Sunday, 8th of March, 2026 at the Okpoama centre, while Hausa United will keep a date with Formosa FC at 3:00pm.
This year’s spectacle will witness 257 teams comprising 227 male teams, 28 female and two para soccer sides jostling for the prize money in thirty different centres across the eight LGAs.
