June lit up with the sound of boots and belief as Africa’s women took center stage for a week of international friendlies. Every match told its own story, but together they sang one song: the game is growing, and the queens are ready.
June 3rd: Tanzania Opens the Dance
The Serengeti Girls struck first. Against Malawi, Tanzania dug deep and found a single moment of magic to win 1-0. One goal, but a whole nation’s worth of confidence heading into bigger tests.
June 5th: Drama, Dominance, and Derby Days*
Cairo held its breath as Egypt and Tunisia battled to a 1-1 stalemate. When the legs gave out, the nerves didn’t. Egypt kept their cool from the spot and sealed it 4-2 on penalties. A win born from courage, not just skill.
Down in West Africa, Ivory Coast turned on the style. The Lady Elephants were ruthless, dancing past Cape Verde 3-0. Clinical, composed, and sending a message: don’t overlook the Ivorian attack.
Then came the big one. NIGERIA vs Senegal – a West African clash with pride on the line. The Super Falcons showed why they’re queens of the continent. Down to the wire, they edged it 2-1. Grit, experience, and that Falcon spirit pulled them through.
And in Morocco, the Atlas Lionesses roared. Playing at home, Morocco put on a show, outscoring Benin 4-2 in a thriller. Six goals, end to end, and a reminder that the hosts of the next WAFCON are building something special.
From Dar es Salaam to Dakar, these friendlies weren’t just warm-ups. They were statements. African women’s football isn’t waiting anymore. It’s here, it’s fierce, and it’s beautiful to watch.
