_By 6pm on Sunday, We Will Be Singing Holy, Holy, Holy… Rangers Another Champion” — Amobi Ezeaku

    By Frankie Omokhua, Enugu

Eight-time Nigerian champions, Rangers International F.C., have activated their ambitious “Mission-9” campaign ahead of what promises to be a thrilling and decisive finale to the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

Rangers General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Amobi Ezeaku, has declared that the Enugu side is fully prepared to storm Lagos and fight for a historic ninth NPFL title when they face Ikorodu City F.C. at the famous Onikan Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking passionately in an interview with Sportsday during the week, Ezeaku described the moment as one of the most iconic chapters in the illustrious history of Rangers, insisting that the entire club, supporters and the people of Enugu State are united behind the dream of reclaiming domestic glory.

“First of all, we thank God for bringing us to thisq level. This moment is phenomenal and iconic in the history of our club,” Ezeaku stated emotionally.

“We appreciate all our supporters and the Enugu State Government, especially His Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah, for the immense support. Now, we have activated Mission-9, which is our collective campaign to win the ninth NPFL title for our people and the teeming supporters of Rangers.”

The Rangers boss exuded confidence ahead of the highly anticipated clash, reminding football fans that the Flying Antelopes possess a proud record against Lagos clubs on Lagos soil”.

“We will play our final league match on May 24 at the Onikan Stadium. Yes, it is an away fixture, but history shows that Rangers have never lost to a Lagos team in Lagos. We are going into that game with the same winning mentality and confidence,” he declared.

Ezeaku also predicted a carnival-like atmosphere in Lagos, revealing that thousands of Rangers faithful are already mobilizing for the title-defining encounter.

In a major boost to supporters’ participation, the Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, has approved 10 buses to transport fans from Enugu to Lagos in a massive show of solidarity with the team.

“We know the support base is massive. Rangers supporters in Lagos are already preparing seriously for this game,” he said.

“His Excellency has graciously approved 10 buses to convey supporters from Enugu to Lagos on Saturday, May 23. So, everyone interested in making the trip should come out and join the movement.”

He further disclosed that the Rangers Supporters Club, led by Chairman Dr. Iloakasi, is also putting finishing touches to elaborate arrangements aimed at ensuring deafening support for the Flying Antelopes inside the stadium.

Beyond the match itself, Ezeaku revealed that the club’s shirt sponsors, Afrinvest, are planning a grand dinner in honour of Rangers after Sunday’s showdown, an indication of the enormous significance attached to the occasion.

“It is going to be massive because on the night of May 24, our shirt sponsors, Afrinvest, are organizing a dinner in honour of Rangers,” he revealed.

Despite the excitement and rising expectations, the Rangers chief maintained that the team’s greatest task remains staying focused and mentally prepared for what he described as a difficult contest against a stubborn Ikorodu City side.

“What is most important now is for this team to remain focused and committed to giving everything in the match,” Ezeaku stressed.

“We must not forget that Rangers and Ikorodu City are the only two clubs that have remained unbeaten at home this season. So, we know exactly what is at stake.”

“We are going to Lagos to fight and to win because victory guarantees our ninth league title.”

In a stirring conclusion filled with emotion, pride and belief, Ezeaku insisted that fear has no place in the Rangers camp as the players fully understand the weight of the club’s rich heritage dating back to 1970.

“We are not going into this match with any atom of fear because this is Rangers,” he stressed.

“We understand the significance of the Rangers badge and what this means in the annals of history for our people. That is why we are committed to this mission, and we will fight to the last drop of our blood.”

“I believe that by 6pm on Sunday, we shall all be singing: ‘Holy, Holy, Holy… Enugu Rangers, another champion,’ by the special grace of God, Ezeaku concluded”
