Super Eagles Wilfred Ndidi has assured that Nigeria would be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the national team can’t afford to fail the country.

The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States and after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over São Tomé and Principe, the player said they would surely qualify..

The Leicester City midfielder made the statement after the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe played on Sunday at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium.

Ndidi expressed his disappointment over their inability to qualify for the 2022 edition of the Mundial played in Qatar.

“This win (against Sao Tome and Principe) is a good one for us. It will serve as a morale booster ahead of the World Cup qualifiers,”Ndidi told reporters.

“It was painful not to play at the last the World Cup in Qatar. The fans were really disappointed in us and we can’t afford to fail again.

“We just have to keep working hard as a team and hopefully things will be in our favour”, he said.

Nigeria will open their campaign in the qualifier with a home game against Lesotho before facing Zimbabwe on Matchday 2 of the qualifier.
