Team Delta has arrived Benin City with strong contingents ahead of the Niger Delta Games opening ceremony at Sam Ogbemudia Stadium on Friday. The team includes promising male and female football squads, who are medal hopefuls, according to coach Whyte Achugbue.

Team Delta has fine-tuned their readiness by defeating Moral FC, a senior NLO1 league side, and Team Ughelli North, winners of the Governor Sheriff Oborewovori Under-19 Cup, 1-0 respectively.

Team Delta State is confident in their talented athletes, many of whom will make their debut on this big stage.

The Sports Commission Chairman Hon. Onoriode Oborewovori has urged athletes to give their best, emphasizing it’s not a do-or-die affair.

Team Delta narrowly lost to Bayelsa State, winners of the maiden edition, by a gold medal on the last day of the South-South Sports Festival in Uyo.

Bayelsa State won the 1st Niger Delta Games (NDG) 2025 with 42 gold, 29 silver, and 15 bronze medals. Delta State finished second with 41 gold, 26 silver, and 32 bronze, while Edo State came third.

Organizers/ consultant Dunamis Icon in partnership with NDDC, Edo State Government, and Benson Idahosa University, assure this year’s event will be an improved version.
