The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF)will conduct an open trial for boxers in readiness for the Commonwealth Games selection in February.

The screening process will be open to pugilists in all the weight categories, while a date and venue will be communicated as soon as all arrangements are finalized.

The vice president of the Nigeria Boxing Federation Hon. Omonlei Imadu said the trial process will be transparent and credible, and the boxers will be given equal opportunity to prove themselves..

” I make bold to say the days of impunity in boxers selection for any international event is over, we have put machineries in place to ensure every athlete gets an equal opportunity to make the final shortlist, the current NBF board is doing all in its space to change the trajectory of the squared ropes sports in the country and this is another opportunity to uphold utmost credibility”.

Imadu further urged the boxers to be on high alert as they intensified their preparation ahead of the trial.

“Our aim is to select only those who are truly ready, boxers with the skills and mentality that will bring glory to the nation are those we are looking out for, so, i will urged the respective coaches to ensure that the pugilists under their tutelage are in perfect shape ahead of the screening process”. The VP stated.

The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games in (Glasgow, Scotland, will be held from July 23rd to 2nd August 2026.
